The first segment takes you to the 3M Innovation Center in Austin, Texas, to explore their cutting-edge medium voltage cabling technology. The second segment features a conversation between Power of Better host Elbert Walters III and Chicago Building Commissioner Matthew Beaudet, where they discuss new codes and requirements going into effect this year that impact the city’s progress toward becoming more energy efficient.
Segment One: 3M medium voltage cabling technology
Viewers will learn more about a medium voltage cabling technology that’s been used in Europe for nearly a decade and is now making its way to the U.S. This technology modernizes the Grid through 3M™ Sensored Cable Accessories (SCA), which provides a simple path for assessing and improving fault detection, power flow and power quality.
The following experts will cover how this technology benefits both electrical contractors and their customers:
- Ryland Marek, director of global business at 3M
- Terry Collier, vice president of research and development at 3M
- Matt Malburg II, superintendent at Aldridge Electric and IBEW 134 member
- Jerry McGlynn, certified safety expert and vice president at McWilliams Electric
Segment Two: 2023 Chicago electrical code initiatives
Segment two explores updates coming to electrical code requirements for the city and how they will benefit Chicago’s transition towards electrification, like the new Chicago Energy Transformation Code.
