Despite the unique challenges posed by COVID-19 this year, IBEW Local 134 members were still able to donate hundreds of socks, t-shirts, and underwear to homeless veterans at Jesse Brown VA Medical Center through the ‘Socks for Soldiers’ program.
The program, which started in 2015, is entirely funded by IBEW Local 134 membership and aims to provide homeless veterans with an essential that most wouldn’t think would be a need: socks and undergarments. To date, it’s estimated that the donations have totaled over $100,000.
Each year, IBEW membership loads up vans and trucks with supplies and is escorted over to the VA Medical Center by the Local 134 motorcycle club. This year, due to inclement weather, the motorcycle club was unable to attend, but they plan to be back out next year when the program continues.
