Powering Chicago’s commitment to building better communities was on full display at the 26th Annual Construction Team Picnic, an event dedicated to supporting the athletes of Special Olympics Region E.
Hosted for the fifth year in a row at the IBEW-NECA Technical Institute (IN-Tech) in Alsip, Illinois, the picnic welcomed more than 200 Special Olympics athletes, along with their families and caregivers, for a day filled with games, dancing, and community connection.
Guests enjoyed a picnic-style lunch and refreshments as volunteers and sponsors came together to create a fun, welcoming atmosphere. The afternoon featured friendly competitions, music, raffle drawings, and moments of recognition, celebrating the event’s 26-year tradition of joy, generosity, and support for the Special Olympics community.
A Record-Breaking Contribution
Since its start, the Construction Team Picnic has raised more than $473,000 to benefit Special Olympics athletes in Region E. This year set a new record, with $25,200 presented to support training, resources, and competition opportunities for participants.
The milestone was made possible thanks to event organizers, sponsors, donors, and volunteers, all working together to make a lasting impact. Powering Chicago’s sponsorship reflects the same dedication and teamwork that drives its work across Chicago and Cook County.
Building a Stronger Community
For Powering Chicago — a partnership between IBEW Local 134 electricians and the Electrical Contractors’ Association of Chicago and Cook County — investing in community programs is as important as delivering exceptional electrical work. Supporting events like the Construction Team Picnic strengthens the social fabric of the communities where its members live and work, while celebrating the perseverance and achievements of Special Olympics athletes.
