Powering Chicago Partners with Northwestern University Basketball for FUSE Donations

Powering Chicago, IBEW 134, and the Electrical Contractors’ Association of the City of Chicago will donate $10 to Fuse every time the Northwestern Men’s Basketball team records a defensive steal during the 2019-2020 season.

Powering Chicago has decided to partner with Fuse to promote STEM in schools to cultivate the electrical engineers of tomorrow. STEM education introduces vital skills that lay the foundation to several different trades that are in demand and will continue to be so for the next generation.

Led by Northwestern University Learning Sciences Professor Reed Stevens, the design principles of the FUSE approach are rooted in prior ethnographic studies by Professor Stevens and other researchers on alternatives to the traditional classroom model for how to organize creative and compelling learning environments.

FUSE challenges are designed around student interests in music, design, and pop culture and are embedded with STEM practices. These interests serve as a hook, motivating students to progress through challenges and, in the process, discover new STEM-related interests.
