On Saturday, July 27, Powering Chicago hosted 50 children and foster parents from SOS Children’s Village at the Chicago White Sox game. This weekend game was selected to maximize the family fun because it was Fireworks Night, Marvel Super Hero Night, and White Sox Spiderman Bobblehead Night. Powering Chicago contacted the White Sox about offering a giveaway for this special group and the White Sox obliged with jerseys for all the adults and children.
Powering Chicago also contacted another White Sox sponsor, Buona Beef, and asked if they would participate in this event. Buona Beef very generously offered to host a tailgate party for all 50 of our guests prior to the game. Powering Chicago provided transportation for the families coming from the Lockport location. Their bus was late due to heavy traffic, but the Buona Beef staff stayed until they arrived and everyone was fed. It was amazing how the White Sox and Bouna Beef really stepped up to make this event memorable for the families.
In addition, Powering Chicago hosted a Diamond Suite Party that same game night to assist SOS in thanking their sponsors and staff. The group included individuals from WSP Engineering, Sodexo, and the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. The suite was visited by the Chairman of the White Sox, Jerry Reinsdorf, who stopped by at the invitation of Brooks Boyer Sr., VP, Sales and Marketing, and Tony Colosimo, Corporate Sales Manager for the White Sox. Mr. Reinsdorf was in the suite for almost an hour and he met and talked with all of our guests and graciously posed for pictures.
It was a wonderful evening for all the families and guests, plus the White Sox won the game! SOS Executive Director, Tim McCormick, was very thankful for our gift to the families and guests. The association with SOS Children’s Village has been very beneficial to the roll out of Powering Chicago.
In addition, the corporate sponsorship with the Chicago White Sox has been very successful not only with SOS, but they have also assisted the electrical industry with Rebuilding Together and the IBEW Local 134 Blood Drive.
Over the summer months, Powering Chicago has also been represented at the National Latino Educational Institute, the National Electrical Training Directors’ Conference, the Black Contractors Association, the Illinois Green Alliance, and the Path to the Future Dinner.
