In an often fast-paced world, there are those special moments when community, compassion, and camaraderie come together to create positive change, and this is exactly what the annual McWilliams Electric Company Special Olympics Construction Team Picnic embodies – an event that combines the power of unity with a celebration of athleticism.

On Saturday, September 16, 2023, The McWilliams Electric Company Construction Team welcomed athletes, volunteers, and families promoting an atmosphere of shared purpose: to raise funds so that athletes can join and compete at the Special Olympic Games.

“We do the picnic to help raise funds every year for the Special Olympics. This year we are so happy to have raised over $20,500 to help the athletes participate in all of the games throughout the year. I am so happy to be involved and to have the electrical construction industry’s support,” Maureen Mikulski, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at McWilliams Electric Co. said.

With McWilliams Electric having lost its original hosting site several years ago, the event has been held at the IBEW-NECA Technical Institute (IN-Tech) parking lot and facility for the past three years. This fortunate transition was made possible by the generosity of IN-Tech’s Director, Gene Kent, who graciously offered their ample space when McWilliams Electric was in need of a new location.

“I want to thank everyone for their continued support for the annual picnic. All of the construction team members, as well as the vendors and suppliers that helped to put this on. Without your help and the volunteers, it could not happen. The athletes truly look forward to this picnic every year,” Mikulski said.

The McWilliams Electric Company Special Olympics Construction Team Picnic is a genuine celebration of unity and compassion, raising essential funds to support athletes. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who make this event possible, ensuring that the spirit of resilience thrives among the community.
