At the National Electrical Contractors’ Association’s annual conference (NECA), we talked with Paul Wheaton, vice president of sales and operations with McCormick Systems of Chandler, Arizona, where he explained their expertise in estimating systems.
“McCormick Systems is one of the top estimating software programs out there for electrical. We’ve been around since 1979 with thousands of contractors using us right now,” said Wheaton.
Their Digital Take Up program is a design estimating probe and as Wheaton explains, “it is a fully integrated take off program so you can estimate in PDFs, JPEGs, tiffs, whatever you want. And it’s direct integration into the estimating system.”
It’s a quick and easy process. “As soon as a contractor touches the plan, I’m going to get labor. I’m going to get the cost of material, material list, materials, everything that I wanted to know,” said Wheaton. And for accessibility, it has the ability to sit in the cloud.
Wheaton highlighted how collaboration is key in the project management tool. McCormick operates as software as service where contractors pay a monthly fee and link to the cloud.
“You can log in from anywhere. Project managers can be looking at the plans, they can see how the take-off is done,” Wheaton explained. “Estimators can share information easily over the network. And, not only that, project managers out in the field could do quick change orders to do everything right there on the program.”
McCormick recently launched a new upgrade called Auto Home Run. “So basically, say you’re doing a low voltage job and you have 50 outlets on this pdf plan. I can tell all those 50 outlets to automatically home run and draw the cable back to a low voltage room.”
Because of its integration, easy-to-use interface and its location in the cloud, McCormick Systems software is finding efficiencies and creating value for thousands of electrical contractors around the country.
