IN-Tech Graduation 2025: The Future of Electrical Excellence Begins Here

Powering Chicago is proud to recognize the 2025 graduates of the IBEW-NECA Technical Institute (IN-Tech), a milestone that marks more than the completion of an apprenticeship. It represents a new generation of skilled electricians entering the workforce with the training, experience, and commitment needed to help build a stronger Chicago.

These IBEW Local 134 graduates now step into journeyperson roles, equipped with years of hands-on training, classroom education, and a mindset of lifelong learning. As the electrical industry continues to evolve with emerging technologies and infrastructure demands, they are ready to lead with integrity, skill, and innovation.

Built for the Demands Ahead

The partnership between the Electrical Contractors’ Association of Chicago and Cook County (ECA) and IBEW Local 134 has long set the national standard for electrical training. Speakers at the graduation ceremony echoed this sentiment, calling it “the best apprenticeship in the country.”

Graduates were urged to continue their development through Local 134’s night school program and embrace lifelong learning, because staying ahead in this industry means staying current and constantly sharpening your craft.

“The electrical industry is constantly evolving. And to stay ahead, we must remain students for life,” said Gene Kent, Director of Apprenticeship and Director at IBEW-NECA Technical Institute (IN-Tech).

This mindset is critical for personal growth and is essential for meeting the complex energy, safety, and sustainability needs of the Chicago region. Whether it’s retrofitting historic buildings, installing critical data center infrastructure, or helping municipalities modernize their electrical systems, the demand for highly qualified electricians is growing, and this new class is ready.

A Workforce That Powers the Region

Powering Chicago’s mission is rooted in building better construction, better careers, and better communities. The IN-Tech graduation is a testament to this commitment, developing a workforce that’s ready to take on the most pressing challenges facing municipalities, commercial developers, facility managers, and business leaders today.

With each graduate, our industry gains dependable, union-trained professionals capable of delivering safe, high-quality electrical work that supports economic growth and community resilience.
