Fifty years ago, ECA Chicago and Local Union IBEW established the IBEW-NECA Technical Institute (IN-TECH) as the premier apprenticeship education center for Local 134 electricians. To encourage students to pursue managerial positions within the industry, the IBEW-NECA Tuition Reimbursement Program was put into place for IN-TECH graduates who transfer into the Industrial Technology and Management (INTM) program at Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT).
The IBEW-NECA tuition reimbursement program covers up to $6,000 per year for undergraduate students taking four courses per year, or 50 percent of tuition costs for a graduate student taking a maximum of three courses per year. Supported students must pursue the Industrial Facilities Construction Technology specialization within the INTM degree program at IIT. Coursework for the track includes construction and project management, estimating contract administration, maintenance of buildings, and facilities and equipment.
IN-TECH graduates who have been accepted to the INTM degree program may apply for tuition reimbursement. Applicants must have completed the IN-TECH Apprenticeship Program, be an IBEW Local 134 member in good standing, and maintain a minimum grade point average.
