In the first episode of “The Power of Better,” Powering Chicago’s new YouTube series, we explore prefabrication, or prefab, and how local electrical contractors are using it to better serve clients.
During this first episode in the new “Power of Better” series, our host, Executive Director of Powering Chicago, Elbert Walters, III, visits Continental Electrical Construction Company’s over 40,000 square foot warehouse. It’s here that prefabrication is used every day.
Prefab is not a new concept in the electrical construction industry. But technological advancements have made prefab processes even better. With computer-generated graphics called Building Information Modeling (BIM) contractors can build items exactly to spec before they’re even on the job site.
Throughout the episode, you’ll hear from electrical professionals including:
- David Witz, owner of Continental Electrical Construction Company
- Brian Swiatek, director of field operations at Continental Electrical Construction Company
- Jim Buhmann, prefab manager at Continental Electrical Construction Company
- Josh Bone, executive director of Electri International
- Justin Brown, president/CEO of Skender Construction
These experts are passionate about the ways prefab continues to change the electrical construction industry for the better. Some major benefits they’ve seen include: increased job speed and accuracy, efficient and cost-effective installation on the job site, and minimal garbage removal from the general contractor.
