As the purchase and use of electric vehicles (EV) continues to grow — with reports indicating EV registrations have increased by as much as 60 percent in the last year — so does the need for safe and reliable electric vehicle service equipment (EVSE) installations. Fortunately, Powering Chicago member Jamerson & Bauwens is up to the task.
Through the help of EV-trained IBEW Local 134 electricians, the Midwest-based contractor has installed EVSE equipment in a host of spaces, conducting work for both commercial and residential clients. “Hospitals and condominiums have asked for electric vehicle charging stations to be installed in their parking lots,” said Jamerson & Bauwens project manager Gina Dooley, “and we’re happy to help them.”
The installations come as Chicago hopes to transition to entirely EV service vehicles by 2035.
“It’s exciting to be part of a new technology and the installation that brings,” said Jamerson & Bauwens co-owner Rick Jamerson. “It makes us train our people better, and helps us broaden our horizons and customer base.”
While EVSE technology is still relatively new, the goal in providing safe access to electrical charging stations remains the same as when Jamerson & Bauwens began over 50 years — and two generations — ago. “It really comes back to installing power safely and properly,” said Jamerson & Bauwens co-owner Kenneth Bauwens. “That way, it’s a safe electrical installation that can be reliably serviced by highly qualified technicians.”
“The electrical vehicle market is only going to get bigger,” said Dooley, “so it pays to prepare for the future now.” To learn more about how EV charging station installations are conducted by Powering Chicago’s union electrical contractor and electrician members, consult our leading eBook on EVSE implementation.
