Celebrating 125 Years of IBEW Local 134: A Legacy of Excellence

For 125 years, IBEW Local 134 has set the standard for excellence, safety, and integrity in electrical construction across Chicago and Cook County. This milestone marks 125 years of skilled electricians whose work has powered Chicago’s growth and helped build stronger communities across the region.

On September 6, IBEW Local 134 hosted its 125th Anniversary Celebration at IN-Tech Technical Institute, bringing together hundreds of members, retirees, and families to honor its legacy. Whether seasoned journeypersons or new apprentices, attendees reflected on the shared values that define Local 134: brotherhood and sisterhood, mentorship, and pride in the craft.

“The history and legacy of 134—I genuinely think about the brothers and sisters that came before me to pave the way so that I can be here today,” said one member.

A Community Built on Brotherhood and Family

The event captured the spirit of unity that has guided IBEW Local 134 for more than a century. Families gathered to share stories, meet fellow members, and celebrate the future of the trade. More than a thousand coolers and shirts were distributed to attendees, symbolizing the shared appreciation that continues to connect the IBEW community.

“Everyone brought their families, their brothers, their sisters, their mothers, their fathers, their uncles, their kids. It was really fun meeting everyone’s families,” one attendee shared.

These sentiments reflect the foundation upon which IBEW Local 134 was built: a belief that success is shared, and every generation benefits from those who came before.

Honoring the Past, Building the Future

From major infrastructure projects to renewable energy systems shaping Chicago’s skyline, IBEW Local 134 electricians continue to deliver the highest standards of safety and craftsmanship. Their work ensures that the city’s power systems remain strong, reliable, and ready for the next era of innovation.

As one IBEW Local 134 member shared, “I hope the next generation comes away with the skills you teach us and that they’re grateful for the opportunities here and the ones they’ll provide others too.”

After 125 years, IBEW Local 134’s legacy continues to grow, rooted in family, strengthened by tradition, and dedicated to building better careers and better communities for the future.
