The 2023 Tree Lighting Ceremony marked a spectacular beginning to Chicago’s holiday season in its 110th year of the celebration. This year, the success of this cherished tradition was made possible by Powering Chicago member Eco Lighting Services and Technology, who installed an astounding 30,000 feet of lights and 60,000 LTV bulbs—equivalent to 5.68 miles of lights.
Eco Lighting and Technology faced challenges, including the need to develop a unique weaving technique to ensure a flawless display, avoiding identical colors next to each other, and securing the lights with thousands of zip ties to withstand the wind. Despite these hurdles, the result was a breathtaking design and an impressive 70% reduction in energy usage compared to incandescent lighting.
“I was excited to be present for the special 110th tree lighting ceremony tradition to see my electrician’s hard work pay off in a different light.” Said Mindy Nowakowski, President of Eco Lighting.
The event was a huge success, with hundreds of Chicagoans in attendance, all coming together to celebrate a season of hope, grace, love, and unity. This gathering truly embodies the spirit of the city of Chicago.
We would like to extend a special thank you to our industry partner, 3M, for generously donating much-needed electrical supplies for this year’s event. Their support was integral in bringing this project to life.
“Powering Chicago and its partners would like to wish you and your loved ones a happy, healthy, and safe holiday season,” said Powering Chicago Executive Director, Elbert Walters III.
