The 2025 Chicago Auto Show’s Driving Future Leaders: Automotive Career Day was more than a chance to check out the latest and greatest in automotive innovation, it was also a gateway to opportunity for the next generation of industry leaders.
This event connected students with experts across the automotive and electrical trades, introducing them to the diverse career paths that power the future of transportation. Powering Chicago was proud to be part of this year’s event, hosted at the nation’s largest auto show, helping students discover the exciting opportunities available in the electrical trade, particularly through IBEW Local 134.
With the rise of electric vehicles (EVs) and advancements in automotive technology, the demand for skilled electricians has never been greater. IBEW Local 134 offers hands-on training, cutting-edge technology, and real-world experience to prepare the workforce of tomorrow. Whether students explore post-high school options or consider career changes, the electrical trade provides a stable, rewarding path with competitive salaries and long-term growth potential.
“It’s a great opportunity for the young people to learn more and get experience and exposure to what IBEW has to offer in terms of allowing opportunities after high school and sometimes after college,” said Elbert Walters III, Executive Director of Powering Chicago.
The day was filled with energy and inspiration as students engaged with industry professionals, learned about trade programs, and discovered the many resources available to help them jump-start their careers. Events like these are crucial in building awareness and excitement around industries that are shaping the future.
As the automotive world moves forward, so do the opportunities within it. Whether working under the hood or behind the power grid, today’s students have the chance to drive real change.
