With more than 90 years in the industry, Arlington Heights electric contractor Gurtz Electric believes its focus on value and expertise has helped to make them one of the largest and most respected electrical contractors in Chicagoland.
Their dedication to excellence is paying off. Gurtz is currently working on some of the biggest projects in the city of Chicago. Their current projects include the St. Regis Chicago in Lakeshore East, NEMA Chicago in the South Loop and Rush NAB in the medical district.
Though value and expertise are key tenets of Gurtz’s business, Mallory Gurtz acknowledges that their highly-trained union electricians lay the foundation for their business’s steady growth.
“Customers choose us because of our continued dedication to providing them with projects that are not only on-schedule but also with electricians that take pride in their craftsmanship and work,” said Mallory Gurtz, chief operating officer of Gurtz Electric and a fourth-generation member of the family-owned business. “This allows customers to have an overall positive experience from start to finish.”
Playing a big part in that positive experience is Tim Moylan, design development director at Gurtz Electric. In addition to his role at Gurtz, Moylan also teaches classes in computer aided design and building information modeling at the IBEW-NECA Technical Institute (IN-Tech). His industry experience has taught him the importance of relationships and the measured impact of the training that electricians receive through IN-Tech.
“I think this industry is built off of relationships. Gurtz has been doing this for 90 years, I’ve been in it for 20 years,” said Moylan. “All of our field is getting a five-year training coming into the program. That makes union labor stand out against all other labor out there.”
Aside from Gurtz’s reputation and dedication to excellence, they also pride themselves in their reputation as a caring employer. As Brian Karlow, the executive vice president of Gurtz acknowledges, without their skilled, trained, and healthy workforce, they can’t do the work that they are so well known for.
“We’re doing this because we care about our employees, we care about them getting home safe to their family everyday,” said Karlow.
Gurtz’s dedication to value, expertise, relationships, training and focus on safety are all integral to realizing excellence as a signatory contractor. By upholding these values, company leaders and employees know they’ll continue to build on their reputation for years to come.
