The 2025 Chicago Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony brought thousands of residents and visitors to Millennium Park on November 21 to officially welcome the holiday season. This year’s celebration featured a 68-foot Norway spruce donated by the Mason family of Glenview, a full evening program, and a crowd gathered for the moment the tree came to life.
At the center of that moment was Powering Chicago member contractor McWilliams Electric Company, whose IBEW Local 134 electricians handled the electrical installation and connections required to safely light the 2025 Chicago Christmas Tree.
Powering a Chicago Tradition
McWilliams Electric Company was responsible for the electrical setup needed to illuminate the 68-foot Norway spruce. Their skilled team installed and connected the lighting system, ensuring the tree was powered safely and reliably for the official switch-on at approximately 6:25 p.m.
Throughout the process, McWilliams Electric Company coordinated with the City of Chicago and Millennium Park operations and followed all Chicago and Cook County electrical and safety codes. The work reflects the expertise and discipline that define Powering Chicago’s signatory contractors.
Illuminating a 68-Foot Centerpiece
The Norway spruce, selected from Glenview and transported to Millennium Park in early November, now stands as the city’s central holiday display. Estimated to be approximately 68 feet tall and decorated with 185 lit spheres, 1,200 light strings, over 119,000 LED lights, and 39,250 feet of lighting—nearly eight miles of illumination. The tree will be on display in Millennium Park through early January. McWilliams Electric’s work ensures:
- Safe, consistent lighting across the full height of the tree
- A reliable lighting system designed for outdoor winter conditions
- Continuous power throughout the holiday season into early January
