For over three decades, the Chicago electrical industry has been lighting up the lives of homeless families during the holiday season. This year marks the 33rd annual Christmas party, a heartwarming event that has grown from humble beginnings to a cherished tradition in the community.
What started as a small gathering for 25-30 children has blossomed into a grand celebration hosting over 300 guests. This remarkable growth is a testament to the unwavering commitment of the electrical industry to support and uplift the local community. The success of this event is made possible through the collaborative efforts of various industry stakeholders, including IBEW Local 134, who generously provides their hall as the venue, Powering Chicago, offering substantial support and donations, and manufacturers, distributors, representatives, and consultants contributing financially.
The Christmas party offers a full day of activities and entertainment for families, including face painting, temporary tattoos, performances by tumblers and a magician, a festive lunch, and a special visit from Santa Claus. Seven busloads of families from various shelters across the city are transported to the venue, with approximately 340 individuals participating in the festivities.
This event serves as a beacon of hope for homeless families in Chicago, providing dignity and purpose to those in need. The party embodies the electrical industry’s commitment to community service, showcasing its unity in serving the community. Volunteers often find the experience as rewarding as the families they serve, demonstrating the profound impact of their collective efforts.
As we reflect on 33 years of this heartwarming tradition, it’s clear that the Chicago electrical industry’s dedication to building better communities extends far beyond their professional work. This annual Christmas party stands as a shining example of how the industry comes together to make a positive impact on the lives of those in need, spreading joy and hope during the holiday season.
