Powering Chicago a Presenting Sponsor for City of Chicago’s 2020 Christmas Tree

Though holiday festivities this year will be different than in year’s past because of the pandemic, one thing is certain: the 107th “official” Christmas tree in Chicago’s history will look stunning thanks to Cook County’s unionized electrical industry. Located in Millennium Park near the intersection of Michigan Avenue and Washington Street, the tree is a 45-foot Blue Spruce donated by the family of Catherine Townsend of Chicago’s Morgan Park neighborhood.

Powering Chicago contractor All Tech Energy has been selected to light this year’s tree, which they’ll accomplish with skilled electricians from IBEW Local 134. Founded in 1994 and based in Schaumburg, All Tech specializes in providing electrical and lighting solutions for institutions, commercial and industrial businesses throughout metro Chicago. Since its founding, the WBE/DBE-certified company has delivered on-time, on-budget and high-quality results at manufacturing facilities, warehouses, distribution centers, retail establishments, municipal facilities, museums, casinos and hundreds of schools throughout Chicagoland, among countless other examples.

Due to COVID-19 health and safety concerns, the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events will not present an in-person tree lighting ceremony for the public once All Tech’s work is complete, but Chicagoans and visitors are invited to attend a new virtual holiday program premiering on November 19 at 6:30 p.m. at YouTube.com/ChicagoDCASE – and visit Millennium Park to see the City of Chicago Christmas Tree shining brightly from November 20 through January 7. The Park is open daily, 8:00am to 9:00pm, for groups of 10 persons or fewer who practice physical distancing and wear face coverings. For information about where to enter/exit the Park and other details, visit MillenniumPark.org.

In the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing more details about our work to power Chicago’s holiday, so be sure to follow the Powering Chicago Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter pages for the latest updates.
